Officials have alerted Americans in Pennsylvania that 911 systems are down.

The outage hit around 3:00pm ET, impacting calls and text messages to the emergency number.

'Pennsylvania is experiencing a statewide intermittent 911 outage,' a statewide alert reads.

'Individuals experiencing issues contacting 911 are asked to contact their local 911 Center on their non-Emergency lines. 

'Check your counties social media and website for more information.' 

The alert is being pushed to people's smartphones across multiple counties.

'We are working with technical experts to resolve the issue and restore service as quickly as possible,' the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency shared on X.

The agency is also encouraging those in the commonwealth to check their county's social media and website for more information. 

Governor Josh Shapiro posted online, saying: 'I have been briefed on the intermittent 911 outage currently happening in some parts of Pennsylvania. 

We are on top of the issue and working to restore full service as quickly as possible. 

'In the meantime — stay calm, follow the directions of PEMA and local authorities, and do not call 911 for any reason other than an emergency. Updates to follow.'

Pennsylvanians flooded social media with the alerts sent to their phones, hope to warn others that they may have been left to fend for themselves.

'A statewide 911 outage in Pennsylvania proves the system’s fragility—taxpayers fund emergency services that collapse when needed most,' one user shared on X. 

'This isn’t isolated—eight states faced similar failures this year alone.'  

Another user posted: 'How does 911 go down for all of Pennsylvania lol.'
