Alec Baldwin may have made a subtle dig at his wife Hilaria Baldwin's controversial Spanish accent after she snapped at him during a tense red carpet interview that has since gone viral on social media.

The Hollywood actor, 66, and his wife, 41, were talking about whether a second season of their TLC reality show The Baldwins was in the works at the grand re-opening of Planet Hollywood in Times Square in New York City last week, when they seemingly clashed.

In a snippet of the interview with Extra, Alec appeared to poke fun at the controversy surrounding Hilaria's accent and asked her to say the word 'essential' in Spanish.

At the time, Hilaria had said: 'We like routine, anyone who's a parent knows that routine is king or queen.

'It's essential,' Alec offered.

'It's essential,' Hilaria repeated, with her husband then asking to say the word in Spanish.

'Esencial,' she shared.

'You didn't let me down,' Alec replied, looking directly at the camera.

Elsewhere during their tense appearance on the red carpet in New York City last week, Hilaria appeared to snap at her spouse for 'distracting' her during the interview.

'Oh my God, you're distracting me right now,' she exclaimed. 'Now you're just doing that. Why? Why are you distracting me.

'I've got to walk out of this interview right now.'

And that wasn't the only time the pair clashed during their chat with Extra.

In another segment that was shared to TikTok, the interviewer questioned if viewers could expect a second season, and Hilaria took a moment before answering.

Alec then jumped in and quipped: 'The Hilaria Show.'

She added: 'No, I think we are going to see, you know, we're going to see how it feels to be out there.'

The 30 Rock star then cut in to say: 'It's gonna be great. You're a winner,' which caused his wife to turn around and express, 'Oh my God. When I'm talking, you're not talking.'

'I'm sorry,' Alec said before Hilaria repeated while holding her hands up, 'When I'm talking, you're not talking.'

She turned back to face the interviewer and joked: 'This is why we'll just have to cut him out of the show.'

After a brief second, Hilaria let out a small laugh and added: 'No, I mean I think this is a really raw show and it's very real and we took a lot of chances and we'll see where it leads us.

'We'll see what it feels like to have it be out there and then we'll see if people like it, that's another thing too, you know.'

Hilary, real name Hillary Hayward-Thomas, who was born in an upscale neighborhood of Boston, has raised eyebrows over the years with her questionable dialect.

Although her parents live in Majorca, Spain, she grew up in the states and is American - but she often uses a Spanish accent in interviews.

She has also appeared to forget how to say English words in the past, raising eyebrows.

Speaking in the first episode of their reality show The Baldwins, Hilaria said she is 'normal' for mixing English and Spanish while also expressing her heartbreak over being criticized for her accent.

'My nuclear family now lives over in Spain,' she said. 'I want to teach my kids pride in speaking more than one language.

'I think just growing up speaking two languages is extremely special. I love English and I also love Spanish, and when I mix the two, it doesn't make me inauthentic.

'When I mix the two, it makes me normal!'

Social media users quickly jumped to the comment section of the latest interview to share their thoughts on the viral moment, with one penning: 'Thisssssss is a very uncomfortable dynamic.'

Another shared: 'Wow, that was a very, very bad moment right there,' while one added, 'OMG he is praising her and she tells him to be quiet.'

'I like that the interviewer gave him a moment, hard watch,' a third said.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another wrote: 'She is very rude to her husband in front of everyone.'
