Manchester United have lost a key member of their backroom staff after they elected to move to a role with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Besiktas.

Tom Green, 33, worked a senior performance analyst for the Red Devils under Jose Mourinho, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

He joined the club in 2017 after previously working for Derby County and Burton Albion in various analytical positions.

Speaking about Green and his role, an individual told The Athletic: 'He's considered a really good football analyst and Ole needs that at Besiktas, someone who can produce and do the dirty work, create the pre-match analysis, lead the manager into a match and make sure Ole has all the data on his iPad'.

'He'll have to make sure that the coach has the game on his computer after the match, that all coaches have analysis clips pre, live and post-match.

'In his role, he'd send individual clips to players before and after the games showing their actions.

Solskjaer, 51, has joined the Turkish outfit on a one-and-a-half-year deal until summer 2026

'He'll be important for Ole and his staff – it's a brave, bold move and he has to be admired for doing that after seven or eight years over at Man United.'

In his role as an analyst at United, Green sat alongside senior coaches on the bench throughout matches during the coronavirus pandemic.

He is said to be 'well respected' at Old Trafford and believed to have made a positive impact at the club but it is not yet known if Amorim will opt to replace him.

Reports claim that he will be a senior analyst as part of Solskjaer's backroom team at Besiktas, where the former United boss has been in charge since January.

The Norwegian has endured mixed fortunes in his latest role - with the Turkish side failing to qualify for the play-off round of the Europa League after a 1-0 loss to FC Twente in their final group phase match.

He is also yet to taste victory in the Super Lig, with two draws in two matches against Samsunspor and Antalyaspor.

Besiktas currently sit seventh in the table - seven points behind a European qualification spot.

Solskjaer, 51, has joined the Turkish outfit on a one-and-a-half-year deal until summer 2026, and will earn €3.6million (£3m) during his tenure, according to club president Serdal Adali.

In a signing ceremony, the Norwegian issued a passionate statement ahead of working with Besiktas, stating that he will not regret the decision to join them before the day he dies.

'We had great meetings with our president. We met heart to heart. The bonds we will establish in this team are very important,' he said.

'We will create a new foundation here. This was something I wanted very much. Our president touched my heart and the hearts of the technical staff. I followed the matches and Beşiktaş while working at UEFA. I am proud to be in such a club.

'I know what the fans want. We will work for this every day. I am only here to win. We have players who have a habit of winning. Beşiktaş is a team that deserves victories. I have always aimed for this in my playing and coaching career and that is why I came here.'

'I would regret not accepting this before I die. What I said shouldn't remain just words, I want to start as soon as possible.'
