Shots rang out at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night, sending the annual star-studded event into chaos as President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania were dramatically rushed from the ballroom by Secret Service.

The glitzy event was barely underway when a suspect armed with a 'major weapon' stormed the hotel lobby. A source told the Daily Mail that Cole Tomas Allen, 31, is the alleged shooter. 

In a press conference shortly after the shooting unfolded, Trump confirmed that a Secret Service agent was injured  but remains stable.

Panicked attendees reportedly dove under tables for cover as armed agents swarmed the Washington Hilton after the gunman allegedly opened fire near the event’s main security screening area. 

Trump, Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance were confirmed safe.

In a press conference on Saturday evening, President Trump confirmed that one person was hurt but they remain stable in the wake of the Correspondents' Dinner shooting.

The president confirmed that the suspect, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, has been apprehended and that a Secret Service agent wearing a protective vest was shot, but is in 'great shape.'

'Tonight, they had everything covered very quickly. And he was fast. He was running full blast, and they got him before they got any further,' the president said of the shooting.

Trump confirmed he was 'very far away' from the scene of the shooting and was ushered out of the venue quickly by security.

Donald Trump has issued a stark rallying cry to Americans at a hastily convened press conference in the West Wing only moments after a gunman attacked the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner.

'In light of tonight’s events I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts to resolving our differences peacefully,' the president told reporters.

Most reporters had rushed over from the Hilton hotel which was hosting the dinner just over one mile away, with many still wearing their black tie and ball gowns from the ritzy gala.

The president praised what he described as 'a tremendous amount of love and coming together' on the aftermath of the shocking scenes, in which a member of the secret service was shot.

President Donald Trump was uninjured and other top leaders of the United States were evacuated from an annual dinner of White House correspondents on Saturday night after an unspecified threat. There did not immediately appear to be any injuries, and one law-enforcement official said a shooter had opened fire.

Authorities said the incident occurred outside the ballroom where Trump and other guests were seated. It was not immediately clear what happened. The event was scrapped and will be rescheduled.

Secret Service quickly escorted VP Vance and then Trump out of the ballroom

Vice President JD Vance was removed from the White House Correspondents' Dinner by Secret Service agents before President Donald Trump.

Secret Service agents, including the heavily-armed counter assault team, swarmed the stage after the incident.

Vice President Vance was removed from the room first, while agents initially covered Trump in place, before escorting him and first lady Melania Trump from the room.

Trump briefly stumbled on his way offstage before being assisted by his security detail.

He was held for some time in the secure presidential suite at the hotel as the president and organizers initially sought to resume the event.

Hotel staff refolded napkins and refilled water glasses, and aides adjusted the teleprompter for the president before Trump was returned to the White House on the advice of the Secret Service.

Trump reveals Melania's chilling words as shots rang out

Donald Trump has revealed what First Lady Melania Trump told him just after bullets were fired in the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

'It's always shocking when something like this happens,' the President said at a White House press briefing in the West Wing within an hour of the violence.

'We're sitting right next to each other, [the] First Lady and I heard a noise,' Trump said, adding they thought 'it was either a tray or a bullet.'

'I heard a noise and kinda thought it was a tray going down,' he said.

Trump said that immediately, Melania Trump recognized the sound as a 'bad noise,' adding that 'it was a rather traumatic experience for her.'

Kash Patel's stunning reaction as shooter opened fire on White House Correspondents' Dinner

FBI Director Kash Patel acted swiftly to protect others as shots rang out at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Patel, who was a guest of the Daily Mail alongside his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, immediately instructed others at the table to get down.

As reporters huddled on the floor and underneath the tables, Patel yelled 'stay down.'

Daily Mail reporters in attendance reported hearing three to four shots and hearing Secret Service agents yelling to get down.

When it was safe to stand back up, Patel and Wilkins asked the reporters standing next to them if they were OK, and then were escorted out of the ballroom by his security detail.
