He sent shockwaves through society when he got engaged to a Hollywood actress 33 years his senior, but Garrett Moore - the eccentric party organiser son of the 12th Earl of Drogheda - appears to have found a more age-appropriate match.

The 39-year-old announced his engagement this week to Hope Chilton, the 25-year-old daughter of US investment CEO Richard Lockwood Chilton Jr., whose $1.3billion fortune makes him one of the richest men in the world.

Moore, who is known for staging fantastical revels at London's top venues for the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Harry Styles, proposed after a transatlantic romance that has become the talk of London and New York society.

While the pair have not yet announced a wedding date, society watchers expect lavish celebrations on both sides of the Atlantic, likely including London, New York and possibly the Chiltons' grand English estate, Crichel House, a Palladian mansion set in 5,000 acres of Dorset parkland. It was where George IV stayed while Prince Regent.

The couple's families, including Hope's father Richard, 67, and the Earl of Drogheda - also known as Derry Moore, the celebrated photographer, 88 - are said to be thrilled.

A friend of the couple told the Daily Mail: 'Garrett and Hope are a perfect match. She is warm, smart and unpretentious and they are incredibly happy together. Both families are delighted.'

The engagement comes five years after Moore unexpectedly became betrothed to Californian actress Colleen Camp, now 72, whose roles in Apocalypse Now and Police Academy made her a 70s household name. They are believed to have separated in December 2020.

Their relationship made headlines not only for the 33-year age gap but for Moore's own gleeful comparisons to The Graduate, the 1967 film about a young man - played by Dustin Hoffman - seduced by an older woman.

The 39-year-old announced his engagement this week to Hope Chilton, the 25-year-old daughter of US investment CEO Richard Lockwood Chilton Jr.

At the time, Camp - who is only two months older than Moore's own mother, Alexandra Henderson, daughter of British diplomat Sir Nicholas Henderson and a former BBC producer - described their bond as 'magical', while he joked it might look like 'Harold And Maude' from the outside.

'We have had a magical and wonderful relationship over the last few years,' Colleen told the Daily Mail's Richard Eden in November 2020, but the couple are believed to have split in December that year.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter last December, Camp insisted the pairing was 'a joke that went too far', adding: 'We never even kissed.'

The much-publicised nuptials indeed never materialised, and Moore continued to focus on his work hosting theatrical parties for London's elite.

It is through that world - and specifically, through British nightclub impresario Robin Birley - that Moore and Hope's worlds collided.

Birley, the son of the late Lady Annabel Goldsmith and a longstanding friend of Moore's father, hired Hope to help run membership at Maxime's, his first American venture, which opened in March on Madison Avenue in the site of the former Westbury Hotel.

Through his company, Moore has staged immersive events at Birley's Mayfair flagship, 5 Hertford Street, famed for its discreet glamour and upper-crust clientele.

He has thrown parties for brands including Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Christie's, with guests including Poppy Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse and Alexa Chung.

Hope, who grew up in the affluent enclave of Darien, Connecticut, was educated at the $58,060-a-year Greenwich Academy before attending the University of North Carolina where she studied criminal science.

Her mother Maureen sits on the board of several arts and education charities and is chairwoman of the board of the New York Botanical Garden, while her father, Richard, is one of America's most prominent financiers.

He founded Chilton Investment Company in 1992 with just $5million and by 2014 was managing a staggering $4billion in assets. His personal fortune has been estimated at $1.3billion, with Forbes ranking him 773rd among the world's richest people.

The self-made billionaire sits on the board of trustees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to which he has donated more than $2million, and has given at least $30million through the Chilton Family Foundation, which he runs with his wife Maureen.

His property portfolio includes two sprawling South Carolina plantations - White Hall Plantation in Colleton County and Buckfield Plantation in Hampton County - as well as the magnificent Crichel House in Dorset, UK, which he snapped up for £34million in 2013. He also co-founded Hourglass Wine Company in Napa Valley.

Moore's father is one of Britain's most celebrated photographers who has shot the late Queen Mother, Princess Diana with Princes William and Harry, Ronald Reagan, David Bowie and Gandhi.

The Eton and Cambridge-educated Earl has published more than 30 books of his work and has 45 portraits in the National Portrait Gallery's collection.

His wife, Alexandra Henderson, Lady Drogheda, has worked as a producer and editor in BBC news and current affairs.

Moore has carved out an unconventional niche as London's master of immersive revelry - specialising in elaborate, theatrically orchestrated parties where guests wander through candlelit backdrops, costumed performers and narrative-driven worlds.

The Earl of Drogheda also has a son, Ben, Viscount Moore, 42, and a daughter, Lady Marina, 37, with Alexandra, whom he married in 1978.

He was previously married to Eliza Winn Lloyd, the only daughter of Stacy Barcroft Lloyd Jr. and his first wife, the former Rachel Lambert; a stepdaughter of American banker and art collector Paul Mellon; and a great-granddaughter of Jordan Wheat Lambert, co-inventor of Listerine mouthwash.

They married in 1968 but divorced four years later. American author and diplomat Caroline Kennedy was a flower girl at the couple's wedding, and John F. Kennedy Jr. was a page.

The-then Viscount and Viscountess Moore had no children, and she did not remarry. Eliza died in 2008.
