Disgraced Huw Edwards has sparked fresh speculation about an audacious return to public life after posting a brooding black-and-white professional portrait online - while mysteriously pulling his £4.75million family home from estate agent websites.

The fallen ex-BBC newsreader, 64, had been trying to sell the sprawling six-bedroom property in affluent Dulwich Village for more than a year, but failed to tempt buyers despite repeated price cuts.

Estate agents had originally listed the mid-century mansion for a confident £4.75million, but after months of silence slashed the price again and again - first by £250,000, then £500,000, then £750,000.

Last week, the listing was suddenly 'removed' from estate agents' public websites.

But if the convicted paedophile has paused hopes for a multi-million pound property payday, Edwards appears to be investing in something far more surprising - his own reinvention.

On Sunday, followers - what remains of them - noticed that Edwards had updated his official Facebook page.

The sex offender's new profile picture a conspicuously polished black-and-white headshot, complete with suit jacket, designer white stubble and a faint half-smile.

Could it be that while his home is off the market, Edwards, once the highest-paid anchor at the national broadcaster, is back on the market?

One follower of Edwards's account asked: 'Is he on the comeback trail? Why else would he suddenly get a professional portrait done?

'It looks like he's ready to relaunch himself.

'No one uploads a glossy black-and-white portrait unless they're preparing for a public re-entry.

'The whole thing screams image rehabilitation.

'Surely he can't think that a well-lit headshot and a scrap of stubble will soften the memory of everything that's happened.'

Under the new picture, Edwards methodically liked each comment beneath. 'Miss your newsreading, mate' said one. Another wrote: 'Good luck for the future, Huw.'

Once one of the most recognisable TV presenters in the country, Edwards pleaded guilty to accessing indecent photographs of children in July 2024, having quit the BBC on 'medical advice' months earlier.

He was convicted following a year of headlines which began when he was named as the presenter at the centre of a scandal over payments to a young person for sexually explicit images.

Last September he spared jail with a six month suspended sentence, with the BBC demanding him he repay £200,000 of taxpayer-funded salary received following his arrest in November 2023.

Father-of-five Edwards and wife Vicky Flind bought the property in Dulwich for £1.85million in 2006 and are believed to own it outright. The couple are believed to be in the process of divorcing.

Advertised by estate agents Pedder, the property was described as 'substantial family home' on 'one of Dulwich's most desirable residential roads'.

Its £4.75million initial asking price was slashed to £4.5million in March this year, before being reduced to £4million in May.

As of this week, the 4,200 sq ft house remained unsold, with the listing updated to read: 'This property has been removed by the agent.'

It is understood that viewings are still taking place at the property but on a discreet basis.

When asked to clarify why the property had been removed from public websites, an estate agent at Pedders said he 'could not disclose information to journalists'.

Before updating his verified Facebook page, Bridgend-born Edwards had kept firmly out of the public eye.

He was last seen in public in August clutching three mini bottles of Prosecco as he walked to his car in Swansea, South Wales, sporting a new white beard and glasses with a black trim.

Edwards, who reported on major national events including Queen Elizabeth's death, was seen with a ring on his wedding finger - despite ongoing proceedings to end his 30-year marriage.
