Alejandro Garnacho can be doubly as good if he leaves Manchester United.

That's according to Napoli's club president, who has taken a sensational swipe at United's player development skills while announcing his side's interest in Garnacho.

Aurelio Di Laurentiis believes the Red Devils are holding back Garnacho but that he has all the potential to be a top star with Italy's title winners.

Garnacho is one of five players frozen out of training by Ruben Amorim because the Portuguese wants him to find a new club.

Napoli had a £40million bid rejected in January and United are thought to be holding out for more than £50m.

'Garnacho's got pace, flair and potential,' Di Laurentiis said. 'But that's not even why we want him.

'We want him because he's at United. Get him out and he becomes twice the player. There's a fault at United that I can't explain.'

A move to Napoli could be a tantalising prospect for Garnacho, not least because they can offer him Champions League football.

It would also offer the chance to reunite with former United team-mate Scott McTominay, who has been loving life out in Italy, becoming a fan-favourite and title winner.

The winger will also be encouraged by seeing how Antony and Rashford enjoyed greater fortunes away from United last season, while Jadon Sancho also showed good form in spells.

Garnacho's time is all but up at Old Trafford after a cataclysmic fall-out with Amorim, which resulted in the manager telling him 'you better pray that you can find a club to sign you,' as exclusively revealed by Mail Sport.

In June, the winger sparked anger after opting to wear an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name on it while on holiday in Ibiza.

Garnacho was told to leave United just days after their Europa League final defeat by Tottenham in Bilbao.

The Argentinian winger had been unhappy to be left on the bench for more than 70 minutes of the final, while his brother Roberto had accused Amorim of ‘throwing him under the bus’ in Bilbao.

Garnacho and his brother appeared to signal their disagreement with the team selection on social media posts before the match, while he had apologised for expressing disappointment at his substitution in an Instagram post back in February.

As well as Napoli, Garnacho has been linked with Chelsea, who could still be in the market for a winger if they sell Noni Madueke to Arsenal for £50m.

In recent days, they have also confirmed the £55m capture of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund on a seven-year deal.

Garnacho has been on Chelsea’s winger shortlist since January, when they were tempted to try for the 20-year-old Argentinian.

However, there are thought to be internal concerns around his behaviour and conduct.
