Pep Lijnders has agreed to join Pep Guardiola’s staff at Manchester City and set to start before the Club World Cup.
The ex-Liverpool assistant, who enjoyed huge success under Jurgen Klopp before leaving with the German last year, has been out of work since December.
Lijnders wanted to branch out into management but only lasted six months into a spell in charge of Red Bull Salzburg last season.
Guardiola has seen three members of his backroom team leave once City secured Champions League qualification by finishing third in the Premier League.
Juanma Lillo and Inigo Dominguez departed the club with their contracts set to expire next month, while Carlos Vicens is taking the top job at Braga in Portugal.
The appointment of Lijnders will be seen as a coup by those at City and may alter who Guardiola plans to take to United States with him for the Club World Cup.

Klopp has long been a staunch advocate for his former No 2 and heaped praise on Lijnders prior to their Liverpool farewell.
'The most influential guy in the last years at this club was definitely Pep Lijnders,' Klopp said.
'The job he did is absolutely exceptional. The inspiration he is for me is absolutely exceptional.'
City fly out on June 12 and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has said they want transfer business largely finalised by then.
Talks have taken place around signing Lyon's attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, while Tijjani Reijnders is expected to arrive from AC Milan for more than £55million.
City have declined to comment on Lijnders and all other potential transfer business.
