The transfer window is about to open again so you will be hearing Andreas Pereira's name a lot in the next few months.

It's common for a player who has been in demand from elsewhere so often during his time in the Premier League. Last winter, Brazilian giants Palmeiras made an approach, but he's having too much fun at Fulham.

For now, he's blocking out the noise, and focusing only on Fulham's best ever Premier League season, with 54 points. Any potential suitors wishing to jump on his success, or even a contract renewal in west London, will have to wait.

He intended to spend his time this summer with the family, but time is going to be cut short by Carlo Ancelotti, who has picked the 29-year-old former Manchester United midfielder in his first Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.

And Pereira, who was born and grew up in Belgium, learned the majority of his football trade in the Netherlands with PSV, then was loaned out four times to three different countries by United, has finally found a home with Fulham.

'I'm living well here, my kids are doing great, and my family is too, so I'm happy here,' he tells Mail Sport. 'I've had three good seasons here at Fulham, and I know the work I'm doing.

'So... if something is going to happen, it'll be God's will. But I still have two years left on my contract here, so I'm focused on Fulham. I'm going on vacation, I'm going to turn off my phone, try to relax as much as possible, and prepare for the pre-season.'

He feels he still has plenty to show in Europe and a move to play in Brazil is not on his plans. Flamengo is a club that will always have his heart. Pereira spent a year there and still receives messages from fans asking him to come back.

'Yes, I would definitely like to return to Flamengo one day,' he says. For now, I still have a contract with Fulham, and I'm here, focused on that. But yes, I'm very grateful for all the affection that Flamengo has for me, and Brazil too. There are other Brazilian clubs and other fans as well, so I'm very thankful.

'Palmeiras contacted my agent. But I felt that, at the moment, I still wanted to stay here in Europe. I have a lot more to play for here before thinking about a return to Brazil.

'In terms of experiencing new leagues, I've already played in Spain, Italy, and here in England. I went through all of my youth development in the Netherlands, but I never actually played in the first division there.

'I still have a very special affection for PSV, and I would really like to experience the league, especially with PSV, because of that affection and because I grew up there. So, definitely, if I had the opportunity to play there one day and experience that league, I would really like to.'

This season, Andreas played in 36 matches, with two goals and five assists for Fulham. Despite not reaching European competition, he feels that the team has improved since returning to the Premier League.

They are part of a cluster of rapidly improving middle-tier clubs in the top flight, joining the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford in punching above their weight. This season they took four points off champions Liverpool, drew with Arsenal and beat Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle.

Fulham were eighth as late as April 26, but a run of six defeats in their final nine games quickly extinguished any hopes of a return to Europe for the first time in 14 years.

'I think we came very close to playing in a possible Conference League or Europa League,' Pereira says. 'It was really down to details. There were games where we were winning at home, for example against Chelsea, and in the last few minutes, we gave the game away.

'So, it's about the details. It's difficult to pinpoint exact things that need to be improved. I think we've been improving for two years now. We've already broken the points record.

'II think each year we're showing incredible improvement for the club, considering where we came from, the Championship. If you look at it three years later, and we're breaking records, I think we're on a good path.'

Coach Marco Silva, much like Pereira, is likely to be a name linked with various clubs for potential transfers. There's reported interest from Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal and Spurs if they decide to change Ange Postecoglou, although Silva has insisted he will remain at Fulham for another season.

And Pereira, who played under the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal at United, credits Silva with being right up there with the best he has seen.

'He's a perfectionist in making the team understand who we're playing against, the team's strengths,' says Pereira. 'He prepares our team very well, he organises everything down to the last detail, and that makes it easier for us on game day.

'I think he really has his own style. We have a plan A, a plan B. I think he might be the coach who prepares the team the most that I've ever had, even down to the last details of set pieces, even throw-ins, we know what the other team is going to do. So, I think that's a huge advantage we have.'

Fulham has a main core of Brazilian players. Pereira, Willian, Rodrigo Muniz and Carlos Vinicius are all close, and the Spanish athletes also get along to participate in the funny moments. Everybody is close.

'We have our little group. We're always, you know, getting into mischief with each other, playing jokes. So we're really close. The rest of the squad is also very close. There's a group with the Africans, another with the English. So we all get along very well.

'I think it was similar back when I was at United. There were always the groups of foreigners, the South Americans, who stuck together. Back then, I was with them from the beginning, really.

'We were also with Mata, Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Falcao, Di Maria. So those were the guys we were always talking to. But since I came up through the academy, I also had a lot of connection with the English academy players, like Rashford, Lingard, Pogba too.

'So that relationship I had was a bit broader than it is today. talk to the English players at Fulham too, but it's still a bit different.'

Pereira spent just over a decade at United, impressing them at a youth tournament and being persuaded to join by a visit from Ferguson. And it's painful for him to see what has happened to a club he still has a lot of affection for.

'As a fan, from the outside, it’s sad,' he says. 'A big club like that, seeing it the way it is, it's clearly sad. I'm used to seeing Manchester always as one of the biggest clubs in the world, always fighting at the top, fighting to be champions.

'But they're going through this phase of renewal, it's a new coach, now a new owner. So I think they'll suffer a bit, which is normal. But of course, nobody who truly likes Manchester United wants to see them in this situation.'

Pereira now hopes to return in good shape for the Brazilian team, under the command of Ancelotti

Pereira now hopes to return in good shape for the Brazilian team, under the command of Ancelotti.

The Brazilian FA hopes to restructure the squad and make improvements to reach their biggest dream, which is the sixth World Cup crown.

Results have not been up to scratch since their last win, in 2002. Four quarter-finals in five World Cups, with a total humiliation on home soil sandwiched in the middle, thumped 7-1 by Germany in the 2014 semi-finals in Belo Horizonte.

Pereira made his senior debut in 2018 and became the first Brazilian in more than a century to play for his country having been born abroad. He now has nine caps and is one of 10 Premier League players in Ancelotti's first squad.

Ancelotti, the first foreign manager in the history of the Selecao, has a bit of a job on his hands, with Brazil having stumbled through World Cup qualifying.

They sit fourth in the South American standings, but thanks to the expanded 48-team tournament, six of the 10 teams qualify automatically, while a seventh has a safety net of a play-off against a team from another continent.

Two wins this month will book their place in the United States, Canada and Mexico next summer.

Right behind Pereira as we speak is a board of his goal against Peru in October 2024. There is also an arcade in a game room built in his house. In his free time, he plays Warzone and some EAFC as well, but feels it is impossible to replicate the footballers' moves in the game.

'For me, without a doubt, the best moment of the season was when I scored the goal against Peru,' he says, pointing to the board.

'I think, for me, all the work I've done throughout my career, a dream to play for the national team... coming into the game and scoring a goal the way it happened, for me it was something very gratifying and also realising my dream, scoring a goal for the national team.

'For me, my biggest goal is to be in that 2026 World Cup. I'm going to do everything I can to show my quality at the club, especially, and to show that I also have it for the national team and can help in the best way.

'So, for me, yes, it's a big objective. I have that in my head. And, of course, it's a dream. I want to be there, I want to go to the World Cup, and, God willing, we can be champions.'
