A Bargain Hunt star died just hours after filming the BBC show, it has emerged.

Stuart Withers appeared in a recent episode of the popular programme broadcast on Friday 21 March and was seen alongside presenter Charlie Ross as well as experts Tim Weeks and Philip Serrell.

However, it's been revealed that he sadly passed away following the recording which took place in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

Bargain Hunt's official X/Twitter announced the news in a statement on Friday, writing: 'Following the filming of today's episode in Shepton Mallet, antiques seller Stuart Withers very sadly passed away.

'We send our sincerest sympathies and condolences to Mr Withers' family and friends.'

No further details about his death has been revealed.

BBC fans were quick to pay tribute, with one writing: 'So very sad just watched this episode now, offering my condolences.'

Friday's episode of Bargain Hunt saw antiques seller Stuart assist the Blue Team as they strived to spend their last £75.

The two contestants were joined by Tim Weeks as they debated the resell value of a pair of Royal Doulton ceramic pieces.

Stuart told the team: 'The only two that I think you'd have a chance with are the small fox or that hare. I could them for about £40 (each).'

Tim then attempted to barter with the seller, asking if he could cut a deal to get both items for their budget of £75, to which Stuart agreed.

This isn't the only tragedy for a BBC antiques show this year as in January, Flog It! star Michael Baggott died in hospital after suffering a heart attack.

The BBC antiques expert, 51, had been in hospital since suffering a stroke in October, a statement posted on his social media confirmed.

'Heartbroken to share that Michael died yesterday in hospital of a heart attack following a stroke in October,' the post read.

'He was a dearly loved son, brother, nephew and uncle who will be deeply and profoundly missed. There will be a memorial service in the coming weeks, the details of which will be shared here.'

Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow star Charles Hanson was among those paying tribute.

'Rest in peace @baggottsilver A giant of our antique industry, our 'Arthur Negus ' and never afraid to call out 'an expert' who got it wrong including myself.

'Michael's thirst for knowledge for the 'object within' merited far more TV time too for a true and proper expert.'
