Theo James has admitted that he 'still has to hustle' for acting roles after over a decade in the industry and a number of his high profile projects under his belt.

The actor, 40, who gained recognition for his leading role in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen, recalled having to 'fight' for his part in The White Lotus, which he later went on to gain a Primetime Emmy Awards nomination for.

Covering Mr Porter's digital title The Journal this week, Theo said that whilst people assume 'doors start just swinging open,' this hasn't been the case for him.

He played the role of smug holidaymaker Cameron Sullivan in season two of the black comedy drama series, which was created by Mike White.

It follows the guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus resort chain, whose interactions are affected by their various psychosocial dysfunctions.

Speaking of his role in the critically acclaimed HBO series, Theo said: 'People think once you’ve "made it", the doors just swing open. But the truth is, you’re always hustling.'

He continued: 'Even with The White Lotus, I had to fight for that role. There’s this balance between what you want and what the industry thinks you should want.'

Theo explained how the 'gnawing sense of insecurity' behind Cameron's bravado is what drew him to the character.

'I’ve always been drawn to the contradictions in people. It’s the flaws that make a character interesting. I suppose the same could be said about us all,' he added.

Last year it was confirmed that production on season three had begun in Southeast Asia when the show's official Instagram shared a snap of a slate being used on the first day of filming on February 13.

The photo was captioned: 'Unforgettable experiences are in the making at #TheWhiteLotus. We are eager to welcome new guests to our resort in Thailand,' but it seems Cameron and wife Daphne, played by Meghann Fahy, will not be returning for the drama.

During an appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna, Theo confirmed: 'No, I am not going to Thailand.

'I'm excited to see that. I think they're having a great time out there, and they're out there a long time, I think it's even longer,' he added, referring to the four months he spent in Taormina, Sicily, filming White Lotus season two.

But there's plenty of other familiar names joining the new cast including Natasha Rothwell, who played put-upon beauty therapist Belinda in the first series and Brit actors Jason Isaacs who played Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and Aimee Lou Wood from Sex Education.

Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of Arnie and Maria Shriver, plays a leading role alongside Thai actors Dom Hetrakul and Tayme Thapthimthong.

A gang of forty-something Hollywood actresses including Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age) Leslie Bibb (The Babysitter), Michelle Monaghan (Mission Impossible) and indie film actress Parker Posey could suggest they are a group of wealthy American women seeking some sort of high-end spiritual healing.

HBO also revealed Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, and The Last Kingdom's Arnas Fedaravičius have been cast for season three.

As for what happens on screen, all the actors have signed 'multiple' non-disclosure agreements to try to keep the identity of the body found floating in a meditation pond a secret – and of how and why the murder happened. There is also set to be a big name guest star who joins mid-series.
