Micah Richards believes Ruben Amorim's comments in the media are making his job harder than it needs to be after crisis-ridden Manchester United's latest Premier League defeat.
United were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham on Sunday - their 12th loss of the league campaign, their most in the top flight in 31 years - after James Maddison struck the only goal of the game in the 13th minute following an error from Andre Onana.
The visitors had several chances to equalise but could not find a cutting edge, with the defeat leaving them 15th in the table.
Following the defeat, Amorim reiterated that his job is 'so hard' following his ninth loss in the hot seat since joining United in November.
And former Manchester City star Richards has taken aim at the way the Portuguese coach speaks about his side to the press.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards said: 'When he said this is the worst team in United history, whatever quotes he wants to use, what he doesn’t understand is that’s a headline every single week.

'If he doesn’t like a player, if he doesn’t like Rashford, that’s his decision. We can accept that as pundits, that’s your decision, we respect your decision.
'But all the other stuff around it he’s actually making it harder for himself. He doesn’t understand what he’s doing because everything is chaos. It’s chaotic.'
Amorim has been known not to mince his words when speaking publicly about United, with brutal assessments of his side a regular occurrence in post-match interviews and press conferences.
The Red Devils boss branded his team as ‘maybe the worst in the history of Manchester United’ following defeat at home to Brighton last month.
The ruthless label he put on his own side led to a significant amount of media coverage before the 40-year-old later admitted he was wrong for the comments and that frustration got the better of him.
Amorim was also criticised for his handling of Marcus Rashford, with the Portuguese coach exiling the academy graduate before his loan move to Aston Villa in the winter transfer window.
Amorim publicly questioned the star's application in training and declared he would have to drastically change his attitude to be brought back in from the cold.
And now Richards believes Amorim's actions are creating stories that don't need to be told, with United struggling in the way that they are.

'You mentioned Sporting Lisbon, you can say what you want when you’re winning, and no disrespect to Sporting Lisbon - they’re not at the same level of club as Man United,' continued Richards.
'I feel like he needs to, I don't want to say focus on the football, but stop giving people nuggets bigger stories than it needs to be.'
