Online bedding and furniture retailer Dusk is moving towards a £300m listing as it hires investment bankers for a London float.

The update comes amid fresh concerns over the allure of the London stock market as it is predicted that more British companies will list in New York than their home bourse this year.

Yorkshire-based Dusk, which sells home goods from sofas to rugs, has picked Panmure Linerum and Zeus ahead of an IPO later this year, according to a report by Sky News.

This could see the group match the value of its listed rival DFS Furniture.

It has 2million customers and saw sales jump 28 per cent to £195million for the year ended 31 March 2026.

The update comes amid gloom over the health of the London stock market - which has been targeted by overseas bidders in recent weeks

Founder and chief executive Jason Walker intends to remain as a major investor, it has been reported.

The listing would be a shot in the arm for the beleaguered London market after Peel Hunt warned that more companies could fall victim to foreign predators and disappear from the London Stock Exchange.

There have been bid attempts at major household names including Easyjet and Segro in recent weeks amid a takeover fever.

Analysis by the City broker found that there have been 154 completed or proposed bids for UK-listed firms worth more than £100million since the start of 2023, with a total value of £165billion.

There have been just 11 UK IPOs of companies of that size, with a total value of just £6billion in that time.

British firms are choosing to list in the US instead, with more UK businesses on course to go public in New York this year than in London.

But there are hopes that several big names will list in the next year or two, including Waterstones and Boots.

Primark is also expected to join the FTSE-100 when it is spun-off from owner Associated British Foods.

Dusk was approached for comment.
