Iran has fired intermediate-range ballistic missiles at the UK-US military base Diego Garcia, although neither missile made contact it marks a significant attempt by Iran to reach beyond the Middle East.

It comes after President Donald Trump blasted Keir Starmer saying that the UK 'should have acted a lot faster' in allowing America to use British bases to strike Iranian missile sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz.

He also ruled out a ceasefire saying: 'I don't want to do a ceasefire. You don't do a ceasefire when you're literally obliterating the other side.'

His remarks followed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei declaring that the US and Israel have been dealt a 'dizzying blow' in the war.

Khamenei, who has yet to appear in public after he was injured in an airstrike that killed his father, said Iranians had been united since the conflict began in his message for Persian New Year.

Meanwhile, as the war enters its fourth week, Trump has said he has run out of leaders to talk to in Iran as he insisted the US is doing 'extremely well'.

British-US Diego Garcia base targeted by Tehran

The US-UK joint military base was reportedly targeted by Iranian missile strikes on Friday evening, sources told the Wall Street Journal.

Multiple US officials confirmed to the outlet that neither missile hit the base. Two sources said one of the missiles failed in flight, and the other was intercepted by the US.

Diego Garcia is located on a remote island in British waters and houses US bombers, nuclear submarines and missile destroyers.

The base is around 4,000 kilometers from Iran. The strikes undermine Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's previous comments that Tehran limited ballistic missile range to only 2,0000 kilometers.

It comes after UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer yesterday gave the US permission to use the base for 'collective self-defence'.

Starmer putting 'British lives in danger'

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Keir Starmer of 'putting British lives in danger' after the UK agreed to allow the US to use its bases to strike Iranian targets linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

He warned that Iran would 'exercise its right to self-defence'.

Posting on X, Aragchi said:

Vast majority of the British People do not want any part in the Israel-U.S. war of choice on Iran.
Ignoring his own People, Mr Starmer is putting British lives in danger by allowing UK bases to be used for aggression against Iran.

Where is Diego Garcia?

Military base Diego Garcia, which was targeted overnight by Iranian missiles, is the largest of the Chagos Islands.

Located in the Indian Ocean, it is surrounded by thousands of miles of sea and sits around 4,000km from Iran.

It is home to the base which is used by both Britain and America.

US President Donald Trump previously hit out at the UK for agreeing to a deal over the Chagos Islands to return their sovereignty to Mauritius.

President Trump 'surprised' at 'very late response' from UK which 'should have acted a lot faster'

Donald Trump has said the UK 'should have acted a lot faster' in allowing America to use British bases to strike Iranian missile sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz.

Ministers agreed on Friday afternoon that UK bases could be used for US 'defensive operations to degrade the missile sites and capabilities being used to attack ships'.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Friday, US President Donald Trump said: 'It's been a very late response from the UK.

'I'm surprised because the relationship is so good, but this has never happened before.

'They were really, pretty much our first ally, all over the world.'

Referring to Diego Garcia, he said:

They didn't want us to use the island, the so called island, which for some reason they gave up rights to it.
I was a little surprised in the UK, to be honest. They should have acted a lot faster.

Israel conducts 'targeted ground operation' in Lebanon

Overnight, Israeli forces conducted a 'targeted ground operation' against Hezbollah, the IDF has said.

In a statement, Israel's military claimed to have 'eliminated terrorists in an encounter in southern Lebanon'.

The IDF has been conducting operations on the ground in Lebanon in recent weeks, and says that last night soldiers eliminated one Hezbollah fighter, while a strike from its Air Force and tank fire killed several more.

Elsewhere in Lebanon, the Israeli Air Force targeted what it said was a Hezbollah base in Beirut.

Adding there were no Israeli casualties, the statement said: 'The IDF will continue to act forcefully against the Hezbollah terror organisation, which decided to join the campaign and operate under the auspices of the Iranian regime, and will not allow harm to the citizens of the State of Israel.'

Hezbollah said it fired rockets at Israel's Filon base overnight.

Russia remains 'loyal friend' to Iran - Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his nation remains a 'loyal friend' to Iran.

Congratulating Iranian leaders on Nowruz, Tehran's New Year's Day, he released a statement saying Moscow remained a loyal friend and reliable partner to Tehran.

'Vladimir Putin wished the Iranian people to overcome the harsh trials with dignity and stressed that in this difficult time Moscow remains a loyal friend and reliable partner of Tehran,' the Kremlin said.

Attacks against US consulates and embassies ramp up

Since the initial strikes in Iran almost three weeks ago, US embassies and consulates have endured the highest number of attacks in the post-9/11 era, according to the Wall Street Journal.

'Attacks on diplomatic facilities, including outside the conflict zone, are becoming normalized,' Jen Gavito, a former senior US diplomat, told the outlet.

'The scale and scope of these attacks are unprecedented.'

Officials said that the US evacuated staff from its embassy compound in Baghdad as Iran continues retaliatory strikes in the region.

There have been no fatalities or injuries of US personnel, but it has impacted America's diplomatic presence in the Middle East.

Iran has reportedly fired ballistic missiles at a joint US-UK military base in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

The US-Israeli war on Iran is approaching its third week since the initial strikes. Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that the US was considering 'winding down' military action.

The president added in his remarks that the US military was 'getting very close' to meeting its objectives in the war.

However, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday evening that the Diego Garcia joint base was targeted by two intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

Multiple US officials confirmed to the outlet that neither missile hit the base. Two sources said one of the missiles failed in flight, and the other was intercepted by the US.

Tehran also sent two ballistic missiles towards the UK-US military base Diego Garcia, although neither hit it, according to reports.
