Sainsbury’s boss is among business leaders to have been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list.
Simon Roberts, chief executive of the UK’s second-largest supermarket, has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the retail industry.
He has led the grocer since 2020, after taking over the reins from Mike Coupe.
Roberts steered the business through the Covid pandemic as well as a period of soaring food prices.
Elsewhere, BAE Systems’ former boss Ian King becomes a CBE for services to the transport and defence sectors.
He led the FTSE 100 firm for nearly a decade until his retirement in 2017, after a career spanning more than 40 years in defence.
Ex-National Grid CEO John Pettigrew has also been made a CBE for services to energy.
He led the firm, which runs much of Britain’s electricity grid, for almost ten years until his retirement in November.
Monzo chairman and ex-Northern Rock boss Gary Hoffman will receive a CBE for services to the economy and sport. Hoffman was also head of the Premier League from 2020 to 2022.
