Fans have ridiculed Apple's newest accessory - with many claiming the tech giant is charging hundreds of dollars for a sock with a hole in it.
The company today revealed the iPhone Pocket, a 3D-knit pouch that essentially acts as a purse or satchel for your device.
It comes in two basic sizes: One with a shorter strap that can hang from the wearer's arm and one with a larger strap that users can throw over their shoulder.
While it may look like a thick tube sock with a long slit down the middle, the smartphone carrier will cost Apple fans between $149.95 for the short strap and $229.95 for the longer version.
The prices have already drawn mockery on social media, with critics comparing the iPhone Pocket to everything from a bikini to a contraceptive.
'Use protection, don't let your iPhone get infected with viruses - iPhone Pocket, the smartphone condom,' one person on X joked.
'I had to check the domain 3 times, I was so sure this was a joke,' another X user wrote.
The new accessory, created in collaboration with Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE, will go on sale online on Friday and in Apple stores in the US, UK, France, China, Italy, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
The company said the product explores the concept of 'the joy of wearing an iPhone in your own way.'
Apple added that the designers at ISSEY MIYAKE were inspired by the concept of 'a piece of cloth' and then reinterpreted their brand’s famous pleated clothing into a phone bag.
'How is this not satire?' one person on social media asked.
'That iPhone Pocket is 100 percent an IQ test,' a commenter on X claimed.
Several others compared the product to the extremely revealing swimsuit that actor Sacha Baron Cohen wore in the comedy Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
The mocking spread worldwide, with social media users around the globe universally panning the Pocket in multiple languages.
'Apple surprises again with a product that you will not want even as a gift,' another person said, translated from Spanish.
Meanwhile, some iPhone users didn't understand the point of the product, given that they can still carry the expensive tech gadget in their pants without any problems.
Apple has noted that the iPhone Pocket will be a limited edition release, but did not provide specifics on how long the designer pouches will be available.
It will be for sale in eight colors, including lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon and black.
In a joint statement with Apple, Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO, said: 'The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use.'
While a knitted iPhone pouch for $230 may seem excessive to many, it's not even close to the most expensive accessories Apple has ever released.
In a collaboration with French luxury brand Hermès, the tech giant sold designer Apple Watch bands for up to $1,249.
However, if someone wanted to really carry their iPhone in style, Apple has made Caviar diamond cases available, which use real gold and precious gems and cost at least $8,000.
